Naming and launch of the 2,400 m³ TSHD CAZANGA
Category: Press release
The naming and launch ceremony for the 2,400 m³ trailing suction hopper dredger CAZANGA took place on Friday, 12 December 2008 at Verenigde Scheepswerf Heusden (VSH). This was the first launch at this site after the foundation of VSH in March 2007.
The contract for the design and construction of the ship was signed by IHC Dredgers. Construction was sub-contracted to VSH and the keel-laying took place on 29 April 2008. After the commissioning and dredging trials in the Netherlands, the CAZANGA will sail to her home port in Angola under her own power. The construction of the ship will be completed at the IHC Merwede yard in Kinderdijk.

The CAZANGA is a multifunctional dredger capable of undertaking a wide range of maintenance and capital dredging work. She is a twin-screw, trailing suction hopper dredger with one trailing suction pipe with an internal diameter of 700 mm, enabling the vessel to dredge to a maximum depth of 25 m. The dredged material can be discharged through a single row of bottom doors. Other options are the use of the system for pumping the dredged material to the shore through a floating line, or "rainbowing" through a pipe mounted on the bows of the vessel, making the CAZANGA an ideal vessel for the local conditions.
