A company is not an isolated island, it is part of our society and the people who work there do things that affect their environment. Corporate social responsibility is all about being a 'good citizen'. IHC Merwede wants to be a good citizen that operates wisely and reliably with respect for its surroundings. The main ingredients of corporate social responsibility are Quality, Labour conditions, Work Safety and care for the Environment.
To obtain and keep the various certificates, the companies are regularly audited by external auditors, for instance Lloyds' or the SKH.
Labour conditions and safe work methods are standard items in work preparations and progress meetings at IHC Merwede. An extensive training programme, which includes courses about safe lifting to First Aid, teaches the employees how to work safely.
For many operations at the shipyards, IHC Merwede needs environmental permits, in The Netherlands and in other countries. All IHC Merwede shipyards and slipways comply with the environmental and safety requirements set by the authorities and clients and have the necessary permits.
