Mechanical dredgers

IHC Merwede’s expertise is reflected by the flexible solutions and innovations that are inherent within its range of mechanical dredgers. The backhoe and grab hopper dredgers can be built in The Netherlands or at local yards – depending on specification, budget and delivery time required.

Although designed and built according to customer specifications, IHC Merwede’s mechanical dredgers share a number of common characteristics, which are responsible for their success. Firstly, they are designed to achieve the specified production level, in a wide range of soil and environmental conditions. As a consequence, soil, sea and other conditions are taken fully into account from the earliest design stage.

Secondly, they are economical to operate. Building mechanical dredgers at local shipyards reduces labour costs and keeps the investment relatively low. It ensures that the final product meets the specification of the contract at a competitive price and using local equipment suppliers. Life-cycle costs are also minimised by the smart design.

IHC Merwede customers therefore have a variety of options to choose from in the mechanical dredgers category. No other shipbuilder offers such a complete package of vessels for the dredging industry.
