A vessel is the realization of a client's requirements and the culmination of a shopyard's design skissls and experience. For example:
A vessel is a highly complex tool for the execution of national or international operations, which means that the client must have full confidence in the vessel.
A new vessel represents a client's vision: how to improve this nations presence. The client expects: a highter transit speed, larger payloads, better accommodation standards, more flexibility while maintaining the highest safety levels. He also expects: lower costs, less weight, lower noise and vibration levels, minimum fuel consumption, low maintenance levels, low in life support costs. A client requires the optimal solution in ship design.
The envisaged mission of the ship and the anticipated conditions dtermine the layout and outfitting of the shop: whether or not a well dock is rquired for ship to shore transfer, the number of spots on the helicopter deck and in the hangar, size of cargo deck and cargo handling systems, misson systems, the vulneralbilty reduction options, the speed, the propulsion configuration, the range and the endurance of the shop and the necessity of a refuelling station to deliver oil to combatants.
