WE MAKE IT HAPPEN

The sea trials have been completed and the ship has performed above expectations. Just two years ago the ship was merely a rough sketch. Now she operates as if she has been in service for many years. The first rough ideas, born on a sketch board, have been brought to life...
The road from the client’s requirements to the ship’s sea trials is challenging. This is Merwede Shipyard’s specialty: understanding the client’s requirements, translating them into an innovative design. To design, engineer and build a ship that truly reflects the client’s requirements is our strength. Over a century of experience and highly trained designers, naval architects engineers and workforce, have brought IHC Merwede a worldwide reputation as the ‘specialist shipbuilder’.

IMAGINATION

Naval architects analyse a complicated set of client requirements and translate them into a concept. Technical requirements and limitations are matched with the design. Do dimensions, speed, sea keeping capability, draught, stability and comfort requirements result in a cost-effective ship? Our staff is expert in resolving often-conflicting demands, creating the best concept for each future ship.

PROFESSIONALS

Ships are made of steel; however, our staff makes the difference. First in line is the design team; working in conjunction with the clients’ staff, they are responsible for the new technical concept. At a later stage, the project engineers prepare the ship’s details and building schedule. Complicated equipment and machinery are integrated, planned, purchased and installed. Managed by a project team, the yard’s welders, pipe fitters and other dedicated staff complete the ship within set deadlines. Our staff all has the same objective: To build the ship to the full satisfaction of the client.

THE INTEGRATOR

An advanced CAD/CAM system is used from the very beginning of a contract, creating a solid base for the entire shipbuilding process. Consequences resulting from modified requirements can be quickly quantified and executed, even during construction. World-class knowledge institutes, such as MARIN, TNO and Delft University of Technology, are close at hand. IHC Merwede Offshore & Marine has chosen the structure of close collaboration with a pool of specialist subcontractors and suppliers on a regular basis. From just a shipbuilder, the yard has increasingly become a total integrator of the complete engineering, fabricating and outfitting process. IHC Merwede collaborates with all reputable equipment suppliers and can provide turnkey solutions resulting in the ship being delivered as a complete and integrated tool, reducing the clients’ exposure in the project considerably.

OUR EXPERIENCE

A ship built at IHC Merwede is the combination of over 100 years of shipbuilding experience and tradition. The key to IHC Merwede's success in the offshore shipbuilding market is that it can build a vessel exactly according to the client's wishes and requirements with all equipment fully integrated and commissioned as a turnkey delivery. The productivity of IHC Merwede's yards in combination with IHC Merwede's flexible organisation and hands-on management will provide you with a high quality project at a controlled cost level and with a low risk profile. Every new ship delivered by IHC Merwede  is a step ahead in technology.
